Studio recording: Halim Beere, violin William Andrew Burnson, Prepared Piano
I wrote this piece for a class on contemporary piano writing. It's a sincere/satirical take on a cabaret song for violin and piano. The violin is "dressing up" as Lotte Lenya, and the piano is performing in drag as a percussion ensemble. There are lots of purposeful cliches sown into the score [only some of which are audible to the audience, really].
The piece won the Locrian Chamber Players' composition competition in 2012, leading to the opportunity to write permanent emotions for Miranda Cuckson and Dave Broome.
